What are Thumbnail Ads?
Thumbnail Ad is a type of rich media that is displayed on a device screen and disappears or becomes unobtrusive after a specific period of time. The ad appears over the application, usually in a small rectangular window which can be dragged over the screen. The ad can be dismissed through a close button. More interactive components are also provided: rotate, expand, collapse, sound on/off or navigate to browser.
Thumbnail ads grab the viewer’s attention and tend to be more interesting to view than other formats.
How does it work?
Thumbnail Ad is displayed in an activity. The publisher can select in his own application, which activities are whitelisted for Thumbnail Ads (format can be displayed), and which activities are blacklisted (format will not be displayed).
How can a user interact with Thumbnail Ads?
Drag: user can drag the Thumbnail Ad anywhere on the device screen, but not outside the screen. At any given moment, the Thumbnail Ad is visible at least 75% on the screen, and at least 50% on the corners.
Position: Thumbnail Ad resets its size and position to the initial display every time the phone is rotated. Publishers sends the max size in the Load call for the Thumbnail Ad, the server decides the initial size, and on Show the publisher sends the activity and position.
Sound: Sound button is displayed and user can enable/disable the sound.
Expand/Collapse: when a user drags the Thumbnail Ad, then a Collapse/Expand button is displayed. By clicking on Expand button, Thumbnail video is resized to interstitial (full screen). Clicking the Collapse button, the interstitial will become a Thumbnail Ad (small rectangle) again.
Close: Thumbnail Ad is dismissed with a click on close button (X).
